Dawson Sound

Innovator and visionary in the field of sound, Dinky Dawson’s genius contributed to the success of some of the most prominent artists in popular music.

Born in England, Stuart “Dinky” Dawson was initially drawn to rock and roll in the early 1960s as a Northern Soul disk jockey, spinning records in clubs throughout England and Germany. A self-taught engineer, he quickly became talented at customizing and enhancing his equipment, and as the burgeoning rock scene developed he became the road manager and sound engineer for the original Fleetwood Mac.

Dawson went on to form his own company and produce and record live sound for a who’s who of 1970s rock and fusion, including The Byrds, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Lou Reed, Ambrosia, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Orleans, Pousette-Dart Band and many more. These concerts are now available in the Concert Vault in all their rough-edged glory for your listening and downloading pleasure.
