Concert Summary

When one analyzes the early days of the rock 'n' roll era, three men emerge as having the most profound effect: Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley. Less acknowledged or celebrated than the other two, Diddley's contribution is no less profound, but considerably more difficult to categorize or explain. His music may strike some as less complex, but Diddley was always more direct and edgier than his contemporaries. He avoided the teenage fantasies…entire summary

I saw Bo Diddley at a rock 'n' roll revival show around 1970 or 1971. Had a helluva lineup that included Chuck Berry, Gary US Bonds and more. I dug it and all, but music veterans will understand when I say it was all a bit over my head. I had yet to learn to appreciate how difficult it is to be simple. Even so, I walked away knowing I'd seen something special.

word up Chris89, you gots the right idea! word to your humbleness at your age and your taste in music! great to see the youth still in touch with their (our) roots! RIP Bo Diddley!

was lucky enough to see bo before he died. he came out with a square guitar, thick glasses and sat down in a chair. he then preceded to burn the place down. i think he was in his 80's. without the bo diddley beat, rock would not be the same. thanks to wolfgang for making this show available. and thanks to bo, for setting my soul free

Incredible, I'm 19 and the musicians I play with can't get that rhythm. I try to emulate as best as I can and I do ok but when he starts to add harmonics and stuff to it, man he's lost me! It's an incredible loss and it's a shame that Chuck Berry and B.B. King really do get the "lion's share" of the credit for rock n' roll.
