This short but effective set from UK-based singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh was cut for the King Biscuit Flower Hour two years before his multi-platinum love song, "Lady In Red," shot to the top of the charts around the world in 1986. Still, this is a good representation of how de Burgh had embraced his celebrity (especially in markets like Alberta and Montreal) and positioned himself early on as a dynamic music star.

    I also recorded this off the radio, a direct feed from the receiver to a tape deck so it probably sounds pretty good. I haven't heard it in many years. I remember it was recorded to a "metal" cassette. Wow! High tech! Would love to get the whole broadcast here. By the way, the Montreal show is great.

    I recorded the longer version of this concert off the King Biscuit Flower Hour when I was 14 by holding my primitive recorder up to the radio's speakers. It only recorded one channel, unfortunately, but I still enjoyed it. The aged cassette is still in my collection somewhere. I am disappointed, however, that the entire Edmonton concert is not here, as it was actually broadcast through KBFH around this time. This was the first time I had heard Spanish Train, and Chris told a funny joke during the intro to it about the people in his homeland sitting around the fire "peeling the tobacco and smoking the potatoes" as they told stories. I would love to finally hear the other channel...
