Concert Summary

Recorded barely a month before the band's much ballyhooed "Farewell Performance" at the Royal Albert Hall in November 1968, this October 4th show provides sound documentation of the monumental impact Cream had on the world of rock 'n' roll in the late 1960s and early '70s.

They were the first super group, before anyone had even used the term, featuring former members of the Yardbirds, Manfred Mann, …entire summary

is this available for purchase.... ...ANYWHERE? ...my goodness this needs accessible more than just a stream on a website...and for the record in my mind no one matched, let alone exceded Ginger's combination of ability, touch, power, rythym, timing and musical feel w/in the context of group cause...as was said earlier, he is what you want from your drummer. Period.

Regarding a few of the comments concerning the guitar Eric is playing on this show it is without a doubt the single pickup Firebird. There is a singularity of tone throughout the performance indicating a one pickup option. Eric tended to favor that guitar for most of the late '68 shows. The reason "Deserted Cities of the Heart" is not found here is because it was used for Live Cream volume 2. You can hear a fan say "that'll do" after Eric's introduction which is on the LP. (Thanks for editing the track out of this show.) It's a real pleasure to hear these previously unreleased performances. Cream has always remained one of my favorite bands. I bought "Disraeli Gears" in '67 when it first came out and still listen to it and the other albums at least once a year. The version of "Spoonful" is the definite highlight of the show. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Saw them at MSG in fall '68. Still can close my eyes and see the revolving stage and Bakers wild red hair. Will never forget Terry Reid opening the bill with a fabulous Season of the Witch. Those WHERE the days. Yes, they where.

Billiam- one important note about the Cream '68 tour: The guitar Clapton used the most, by FAR the most, was the brown Firebird...followed by the Fool sg, and rarely, very rarely-the cherry 335...by the time of the '68 tour, the fool sg was showing significant signs of wear- - the photos from the 68 tour ( chicago, Philly, Msg, etc) bear this out
