Concert Summary

Ozzy may be the Prince of Darkness, but Ronnie James Dio is the Elfin King of Evil!

After reigning as the lead ghoul in TWO prototypical metal bands - Black Sabbath and Rainbow - Ronnie James struck out on his own in 1983 ‘cuz he knew he could do it better. Yeah, those Dio lyrics are really great stuff. "Rainbow In The Dark" is brilliant. Isn't he the one who also wrote "Starlight At Noon"? Remember, he gave up a promising career in nuclear physics to be a singer. What a great loss to the field of science!

I had the priviledge of seeing Dio at the Toy Tiger in Louisville. This was a small venue, and we were quite close. As usual he mezmerized the crowd with his dynamic abilities. While the guitar and band accompanyment was super I can't help but feeling the Mr. Campbell was really the exact fit for Dio. I felt that the Dehumanizer album with Sabbath was a great match for his style, and quite possible the best studio vocals. However, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow still ranks at the top for his live performances. This show is easily comparable to those with the exception of John Lord.

Ronald James Padavona - Dio indeed! As we all are! Gotta love the lyrics - "When there's lightning you know it always bring me down 'cause it's free and I see that it's me who's lost and never found." - that's what I'm talkin' about! Vivian Campbell is now "lost and never found"; Def Leppard, "Stand up and shout!"; c'mon now! "Look out the sky is falling down Look out it's spinning around and around."
