Concert Summary

Echo and the Bunnymen is one of the more interesting and innovative pop bands to emerge from the MTV-era British pop scene that also gave us the Cure, the Fixx, and XTC. This show, recorded at the Channel in Boston, was originally recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour. It features the best material from the band's early LPs, including "Going Up," "Heads Will Roll," "The Killing Moon," "Never Stop," "Thorn of Crowns," "Over The Wall," "The Cutter," and "Do It Clean." Among the highlights is a version of "Crocodiles" (their first U.K. hit), which morphs into the Doors' classic "Light My…entire summary

... pierced her cheek with a giant safety pin!! Went inside her mouth, thru to the outside of her cheek, and clipped it.

I was 14 and this was the first concert I ever went to. I still even have the ticket, from Newbury Comics for $8.50! The club was dark, the music was loud, the mosh pit was active, and I was enveloped by all that was happening around me. It was quite the experience! I remember going to the bathroom and seeing a girl piercing her cheek with a large paper clip. Exciting!!

Ah EATB. I saw them in Portland, OR in 83 or 84. Sent me back to my teens. (Yeah, I'm old.) Incredible band. (Now I drink to get my hallucinations on.)

I was in college when these guys were popular. They remind me of the best in late 70's college radio. Just love um. Ian says "Thank you" just like robert smith does. Who was first?

I was at this evening show at the Channel, great performance. I had to think long about who opened for them-- was it Let's Active and another local group, like the Neats or The Neighborhoods?? Well, any way, the Bunnymen were mindbending, powerful, and I was in awe of the guitar sound. It was loud in there.

I was at this show and the afternoon show as well. Both shows were at the Channel. I went to the afternoon all-ages show with my 16 year old buddy and had a blast. I then drove him home to the suburbs and then picked up another buddy who was also 18. We had some connections at the club and high hopes that they would let us in. As faith would have it the door staff didn't even check our IDs. I have always been a huge Echo fan and have been to about 7 of their shows (including these two) over the years. This recording is so awesome demonstrating the band at the height of their young career. I had met Ian and Will when they played in Seattle on June 10th, 1996 at the Crocodile Cafe as Electrafixion. Super nice guys, Ian was very shy but Will and I had a great conversation. He was very interested in hearing about the state of Seattle rock at the time. I've most recently saw them on November 19th, 2005 at another now defunct landmark Boston club called Axis. the band was again in great form. I can't recall a time when this band have ever disappointed me live. At the Axis show, Ian completely ignored the club smoking ban and single handedly filled the club with smoke. I just wish that I could download this show. Anyone got any tips on how to do so? Cheers to all the Echo and the Bunnymen fans.

At one point didn't these guys open for U2? Or was it the other way 'round?
