Concert Summary

This outstanding early performance by Fleetwood Mac occurred only a week into their first visit to the United States, when Peter Green was only 21 years old. Falling right between the release of their self-titled debut album and their follow-up, Mr. Wonderful, this show captures the band in its early incarnation, when they were still a quartet - and one of The Crusaders of the…entire summary

If you listen to Santana's version of Peter Green's most famous composition, "Black Magic Woman," you can hear just how much influence Green had on the young Carlos Santana stylistically as most of it (as well as the sustain that Santana incorporated into his overall guitar sound) was inspired by Green's instrumental "The Supernatural" recorded with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (circa 1966?). Peter Green was one of a kind, and though I'm glad we still have him around, his playing (and singing) are a mere shadow of what was. It would also be nice to hear some live Savoy Brown recordings from the late 60s, early 70s. Chris Youlden was the greatest of the British Blues vocalists and SB were also part of the Mike Vernon stable of artists (along with the early incarnations of Fleetwood Mac). Vernon's incorporation of strings into the Blues was revolutionary and I wouldn't be surprised if it inspired B.B. Kings recording of "The Thrill Is Gone" as B.B. was a great mentor to the British Blues bands, and was especially fond of Peter Green's playing.

Now this is a rare treat, a pre-Danny Kirwan concert that doesn't sound like it was recorded in a garbage can. This is another PG FM show I'd love to own in a lossless compression format or CD. BTW Peter Green and Splinter Group disbanded in 2004. Green is currently touring a few cities in Europe, the first time since Splinter Group broke up.

Trying so hard to forget, followed by that jam.......WOW.......what a group.....seen them more than 1/2 dozen times in Detroit area in them days. Silverbell Hideout, Grande Ballroom, Eastown Theatre. Green, Spencer, Kirwan, McVie, Fleetwood no finer band.

Man, awesome tunes for 1968, again proof that Peter Green was the best at that time. He still plays, but lost his Les Paul, and you can pick out his style in the Splinter Group recordings. This is a Jeremy Spencer work shop also, many people thought they had added him as the front man. It was always Peter's band.

Hey! Trace.....Peter is still playind and recording with The Splinter Group and still sings and plays out of this world, I think better than when with the Mack.
