Concert Summary

This live recording by Genesis was a landmark King Biscuit Flower Hour appearance because it marked the first time the band had been heard on a national broadcast with its new line-up, after the departure of lead singer Peter Gabriel. The band had toured for over a year between 1974 and 1975, performing 103 shows on the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour knowing the whole time that Gabriel would be departing to focus on his new family and to launch a solo career. The band had pleaded with Gabriel not to go public…entire summary

Thank you for the music....can we loose the excess bass? Too much of the music is lost.

How I agree with Diamond Dave - Steve Hackett is rocks most underrated guitarist. He was an integral part of the 70 - 77 line up and although Daryl was a great player live the band were never the same after Steve's departure.

I was lucky enough to see them at the Rockland college arena in 78' I didnt know one song as we risked it "all": and cut school! or maybe it was Saturday detention. Glad I never conformed. We were blown away. Does anyone know how/where to get a tape of this rare event??? Thanks Ron NYC 609 658 6248

Yet another splendid Genesis show from one of their best periods. Yes, Pete was the original and is untouchable, but Phil did have more vocal range and power, which brings the older tunes alive in a different way. I have many shows on tape from their first ten tours and each year had its plusses. Cinema and Firth peak out nice and hard here....few songs will take you to the Garden easier than those two at major volume on a good system. Hackett knows how to take it out and his tone is sweet on those solos. Max is so right about Seconds Out, and toi makes a good point about Chester swinging these tunes harder than Phil or Bill did, though Bruford makes some cool choices here which shift things up in that prog/jazz Bruford style. However you slice it, with Phil, Chester or Bill in the back, few other bands were ever this powerfully musical in so many ways, and with so much dynamic control. As someone mentioned earlier on this thread, this show was during the window of open toking and tripping during shows, and this music is tailor-made for voyaging. Headphones with Bill and Phil on Los Endos is a nice mind-melt. For those who like this show, poke around the tape traders' sites...Genesis has one of the very finest tape sharing fan clubs around and I won't break any rules by giving an address...simply look it up and join and see old Pete videos, hear killer tapes from all eras, etc, all for free! Share the music...it brings joy and healing. Thanks to the folks at WV for sharing these shows with us. Think of all the good times this music is still creating! Aloha.

Nice to hear a live example from this tour. Only other snippets I have heard are the bits from Seconds Out and the alternate version of Three Sides Live which included a fourth side live as opposed to the studio tracks. I enjoy Bruford but I must admit that Chester Thompson taught Genesis how to swing as demonstrated on Seconds Out. Still, Trick of The Tail was a pivotal album and tour for the band. Phil stepping out from background vocals to frontman. Songs like Suppers Ready and White Mountain which to my recollection also included Tony Banks on 12 string guitar. First show in London, Ontario, Friday March 26, 1976 proceeded by Waterloo ON 27th, Buffalo NY 28th, Hamilton ON 29th, Toronto ON 30, 31st. I saw the shows in Buffalo and the Hammer. Man...I'm getting old!
