The Dead at their best. Wish we could put on our tie dyes and do it again. Poor Mr. Spoon missed all the fun. Can't wait for the 2nd set.

BERKELEY '71 just wanted to say, it was a grate show. Last show that i saw with "pig", only 15 years old. i loved 'mr charlie' and 'brokedown', and the only way i want to see 'hard' (to handle) is with the "pen". judge me if you will, BUT still will always loved 'the promised LAND'. and this is only the FIRST set.... is there a second set, i thought i saw more...? peace, (~};)

hey dcmetro, you don't have to love everything the Dead did....hell the Dead did'nt love everything they did. Do you LOVE everything you do? This is one helluva show! Jerry's "heroin time"? what do you know about that and how does that figure into this show? good Lord, this was Jerry at his flaming best. I can't imagine rock musicians doing drugs backstage....never happened. :)

Weir on Hard to Handle, perhaps too pedestrian for the space people, but for me cool/jazz/rock/dope funk at its best

  • Butch Cassidy | Wednesday, June 25, 2008 | 4:30 pm

I love Bobby singing the country songs. The sound quality here is really good, very impressive and better than my old cassetes!!

I think the notes relate to the entire show, this is only the first set. As for the space jams, that is the stuff I liked best, as well as the spacey jam songs like Dark Star, That's It for the Other One, the transition inside Scarlet/Fire, China Cat/Going Down the Road. Their covers of 50s rock songs, like Johnny B. Goode and Country like El Paso hits were often anemic and a waste of good time that could have been spent making chemistry. In this set they could have lost El Paso and Railroad and done He's Gone and Brown Eyed Women, would have been better. But is still pretty great. I was 11 at the time, sorry I missed them at their best.

What a band! They didn't play very often in France but when they came over I made sure I didn't miss them. Those who were at the Olympia in Paris (May 72)remember those two incredible concerts with the crowd dancing in the aisles and the two concerts at the Palais des sports in Paris (september 74) were amazing with those huge walls of amps! Thanks to Wolfgang's vault all those fond memories are back again.

Are these notes congruent with this set? Where is The Other One? Going Down the Road? Oh, wait. Set II is "Coming soon." I see. Like Jesus. Okay. I'll wait.
