Concert Summary

One thing could always be said about the Greg Kihn Band during their popular years in the 1980s: as a live act, they sure knew how to deliver. For this night recorded for broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour Radio Concert Series, Kihn and his band open with the lively "Another Girl, Another Planet." That pop gem leads into his version of Bruce Springsteen’s "For You,” a track from the Boss’s first album and from Kihn’s second.

Right around the time of this show, I caught GKB at the Rock City Nightclub on the causeway in Tampa. Dig this: It was a Sunday night show starting at 8. But the band was late arriving from their previous gig in Miami. Slowly most of the crowd began to give up and leave. The band finally arrived around 11 and quickly set up and started at midnight. There was about 35 people left and they all lined the stage, which was knee high. I stood 3 feet away from GK and high fived him after every song. The crowd kept the band with plenty of beer. GK was in a great mood and was enjoying himself. I'm sure he figured..what the hell. A great time had by all. He played all of his set and more. A great cover of Like a Rolling Stone..twice. What a night and memory. Didn't get home until about 4 in the morning.

I remember taping this show that night it was broadcast live on WMMR, with Michael Tearson as MC, who is Greg Kihn's buddy from back in the day in Baltimore. Years later I told a few friends who were big Joe Santriani fans that I had this tape of when Joe played in Greg Kihn's band and they thought I was either confused or totally out of my mind! It's great to hear this show again, it sounds great!!

any chance of the "Day on the Bricks" KSAN show being released? That was one of the best shows I saw the band do!
