Although only consisting of two tracks - "Homecoming" and "An Improvisation With A Hook” - this pristine recording features a brilliant piano duet performance by jazz legends Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
This show was recorded during Hancock and Corea's tour in early 1978 that spawned two live albums and some of the most creative live playing of the time.
Hancock, who initially made his mark as part of the Miles Davis Quintet in the 1960s, eventually left to develop his own music brand of music. Both in the 1970s and 1980s he charted with hit records that fused jazz, funk and rock. His 1984 single "Rock-it,” along with the robot driven music video that received heavy rotation on MTV, placed him squarely in the contemporary music scene.
Corea is one of the most prolific composers of his era. His work encompassed a range equally as broad as Hancock's. He has played with an incredible range of legendary jazz and Latin performers beginning in the early 1960s. In the 1970s his band Return to Forever released several trail-blazing albums of hard-hitting fusion jazz.
These two tracks show the full scope of both pianists' ability both as improvisational jazz gurus and as skilled piano musicians. They capture a quiet and often beautiful moment in their long and varied careers.
