And the single best show was New Year's Eve in Portland, Mass. I think it was their 6th or 7th New Years there. Cold as Hell outside, too

U2 only opened f/Geils for 7 or 8 shows in the Midwest & the South, I remember Indianapolis was one. At the SF Civic center, it was Huey Lewis. And of course Geils was the only opening act for the Stones for the entire Tatoo You tour of Europe. Mick took a shine to them after all 7 west coast shows. Prince opened the 2nd LA Stones show, only did Purple Rain, about 20 minutes, and then was booed off the stage. Of course the Stones fans did not get the purple panties & teddy. That's Rock & Roll!

When i walked into Winterland i usually went to the right side of the stage. it was hot and crowded that night, and about 4 songs in, i got one of those huge head rushes that wouldnt stop, so i had to go down. we were about three back from the stage, and this big guy there with his lady looks down, and says dont worry litl bro, ill watch out for you. told everyone around to back off and everything. i got back up and we rocked out the rest of the show. One thing is true. the J Geils Band is THE BEST live band i have ever seen. when they played Candlestick in 1981 before the Stones, i got up and walked out as soon as they were through. They absolutely kicked the tail off of every crowd they ever performed for. This recording is like striking gold. i cannot wait to listen to this show. The friend i went to the show with has since passed on, unfortunately. I will never forget Bill Graham coming out in a lettermans jacket to announce the band, as Wolf jiggled back and forth shadow boxing like a fighter. Its really a shame that they do not have the complete Intro and Somebody.

"The Desertrat" aka "Lettuce" CANNOT BELIEVE IT !To hear this concert again ! My buddies and I drove from CC Nv. in a 60 Fiat with a 2x4 holding up the drivers seatback !No seat in the rear ,just carpet ! WHAT A RIDE! The show was too cool , at least what I remember of it . Hey it was the 70's ! What can I say !! Does anyone remember the dude walkin' down the side of Winterland (we were near the corner) with a Cop in "Lockstep" behind him ? The line just parted like Moses "parting the waters" while this poor guy announced Trips-Acid-LSD , Oblivious to the Cop !I bout' Fell Out luaghing ! Wasn't a Volley Ball Game played down in the center before the bands started up ? I think it was a Grudge Match .Got to see them play in Medford, Or. again in 79' or 80' .

This has got to be my all time favorite show, and I've seen everybody (Zep, Sabbath,Springsteen, even Garth). I had never seen J Geils before and was an instant convert. They literally were dragging Peter off the stage after the 6th or 7th encore late into the night. Saw them a couple of years later with a young U2 opening for them at the SF Civic. I really wish they would regroup and do a reunion tour.

These guys were definately awesome, especially during that era. Pine Knob (outside of Detroit) was a great venue. Oh, Head East should definately be in the vault.
