He became more open to his improvisational abilities than…entire summary

Fritzcake, I believe you're talking about the Atlanta Pop Festival, and the year was 1970. I don't know the complete lineup, but I know that Poco, the Chambers Brothers, Johnny Winter, the Allman Brothers (naturally) and Mountain were on the bill. And yes, Jimi did tear it up that night (as was his wont).

Wow, 16 and seeing Jimi with Buddy Guy and Sly! That is the best. You know Hendrix was a huge Buddy Guy fan - he used to record Guy's shows and once Jimi cancelled one of his concerts (which he rarely did, unlike Sly who always missed shows) to see Buddy Guy play at a club. The best...

The first time I saw Hendrix was back in 67 at the Fillmore East. I was 16 and it was my first show at the Fillmore. The opening act was Buddy Guy, the second act was Sly and the Family Stone and then Jimi. The price of the tickets were $3,4 and 5 dollors. I had a $3.00 ticket, but it was a magical night. I saw Hendrix 5 times before he died. He the reason I play guitar now.

I was on the 'coatails' of the movement. Born in '53, my folks wouldn't let me go to Woodstock (I was 15), but I remember the excitement I felt from hearing Hendrix. Purple Haze was the 1st Jimi thing I heard on W-NEW FM 102.7. Of course it took a little while to realize he was a force to be reckoned with...at 55 I'm still listening to 'old voices' with a new ear...How fortunate we were to be born then, and to Experience that time...and not just for the music ;) I still say...L ets S tart D ancin
