Concert Summary

Karla Bonoff gave some of her best songs to Linda Ronstadt, who cut three of them for her 1976 album, Hasten Down the Wind. Ronstadt scored a huge hit with Bonoff’s ballad about unrequited love, "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me," and got rave reviews for the Bonoff-penned songs "Lose Again” and " If He’s Ever Near.” All of this was great at getting Bonoff noticed by the music industry and getting her a multi-album deal on Columbia Records. I first saw Karla at a University of Houston concert in 1980. Recently, she has played the Mucky Duck in Houston. Still great after all these years.

The track here mentioned as "Save me, free me" is actually called "Lose again".

What a talent! Her 1977 debut album holds up after all these years. I still find myself playing it and being knocked out by the phenomenal songs. I had the pleasure of seeing Karla with Kenny Edwards and Nina Gerber at a local outdoor venue two years ago. When she hit the closing note of "Falling Star" it sent chills up my spine.

Thanks for the song corrections, notxarb. We'll have them fixed today or tomorrow. Cheers!

I saw Karla Bonoff open for Jackson Brown at the University of Notre Dame in 1979. To this day, she is the only opening act I have ever seen to receive a standing ovation and called out to play an encore.

She is great, no question. A few of the song titles aren't quite right:"I Hope I'll Know" is actually "If He's Ever Near", "Gypsy Song" is "Flying High", 'Not Tellin' Any Lies" is "Rose in the Garden". Brings back old memories. notxarb

What a an incredible talent who never got the recognition she's deserved for so many years! She's fantastic as a songwriter and singer/musician.
