Summary

The original Kingfish line-up was fronted by multi-instrumentalist Matthew Kelly and ex-New Riders bass player Dave Torbert, the primary songwriters in the group. Fleshed out with the impressive instrumental skills of Robbie Hoddinott, Chris Herold, and Mick Ward, the band became a popular club act in the Bay Area. But there were two other such '75 shows at Winterland. 6-17-75 Keith & Donna opened then Kingfish then one of the '75 stealth GD performances. 12-20-75 was agian K&D first then Kingfish then JGB with Nicky Hopkins. As for other GD members, Billy was often the drummer for K&D.

So Robbie Hoddinott died? Ya know how and when? I always wondered what happened to him. I know Torbert and Robby where pretty strung out at the end. My Band, Black Rose, opened the show for them a few times and Robby was doin' allotta coke.

I remember seeing them in Central Park at the Wollman ice rink summer stage in 75' or 76'. Robbie Hoddinott was Hypnotic.

Kingfish was one of the better bands Bob Weir had performed in. Many shows on the east coast were played at the Calderone in Hempstead. Robbie Hoddinott was phenominal. He was surely missed after his passing.. Rich LB
