After years of life on the road and with their role models, the Allman Brothers Band, struggling to survive the deaths of two of its most distinctively talented members, today Lynyrd Skynyrd has become the quintessential Southern Rock band. Under the leadership of frontman and primary songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, the group's melodic lyric driven ballads and power driven hard rockers would catapult the group into one of the most popular touring bands in the world. The group’s distinctive guitar attack, combined with an overtly defiant and rebellious attitude, gave them a cultural identity…entire summary

I got to see Skynyrd and the Outlaws 2 months before this show in Amarillo Tx. The Outlaws did around 15 minutes of Green Grass and Skynyrd around 20 on Freebird. Still have the ticket stub, best $7.50 I ever remember spending!

For SkynFan76, I think it is pretty obvious that the Anonymous posts you refer to were just trying get a rise out of folks by talking about Lynrd Skynrd as a person.

If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?

  • skynfan76 | Thursday, July 31, 2008 | 1:09 pm

For Anonymous July 17 and 22, 2008 are you idiots, Skynryd is a Band and Ronnie Vant Zant was the lead singer who was killed in a plane crash with other members years ago. His brother is the lead singer now. Enjoy the music and shut up.

At their absolute pinnacle...the Skynyrd plane crash was my generations "American Pie" moment (That song sucks! But bless Valens, Holly and Bopper) The tragic demise of Ronnie and Steve and Cassie bent my world, it is otherworldly to hear them again (although this is the pre-Stevie Gaines era)
