Concert Summary

Following the monumental success of the first Crosby, Stills & Nash album and its follow-up, Déjà vu, which added Neil Young to the equation, this volatile group again went their separate ways. During the latter part of 1971, Stephen Stills, who was a prolific songwriter at the time, began sessions at Criteria Studios in Miami for what was initially intended to be his…entire summary

    I wonder how many of you realize that Gram Parsons' had od'ed only 10 days or so before this show. Chris was on excellent form despite that news and also the fact that Manassas was on the verge of disbanding, with Stephen returning to those other guys and Chris, Al, Paul Harris forming the S-H-F Band.

    I saw Manassas in October 1973 in Columbus, Ohio. The show was most memorable for Still's brief mod-show solo set. Wasn't familiar with most of Manassas' work at the time, but I had great 3rd row center seats. I never did warm up to this band's albums, though, I thought the first album had a muddy mix and didn't really rock out as I had hoped it might. I don't believe that I ever listened to the entire album, anyway, too boring for me. Still's claim to be a Latin-inspired rocker left me cold, anyway.

    One of the best super groups ever. I saw them in Anaheim after the first album and then again was blessed to see them when I moved to Sacramento. This was at the Memorial Auditorium in Oct. 73. I still have pics and a poster from that show. Chris carried the show as Stephen's voice was kaput.

    One of the hottest guitar players ever - he's definitely still rocking. Saw CSN on Colbert a few nights ago. The movie about their last tour with Neil the Freedom tour is coming out soon. Should be worth seeing. I saw Stills in Santa Cruz last summer - he's amazing.

    Sorry I missed these guys for sure.Hey before we write the obituary,Stills had a very productive solo career,all excellant,live &studio recordings&I'm sure he's doin' just fine right now.Seein' Manassas,C,S,N&Y,C,S&N or any of the bands whose players made up Manassas reunite&play again would kick ass.--GTRZAN ;.}

    Great show a lot of fun to listen to. gretsch8217 is correct a bigger band mix would have been nice, however the fact that this even exist is a plus. As far as philipee question what ever happened to stills?? CSN and Stills solo bands have toured almost every summer as well as put out several records since the 70's. Neil may have had a higher profile at some points in time but all the guys have continued to write and thrive.

    This show is fantastic. I had the luck to hear Manassas in Paris Olympia May 1972 and i'll remember all ?y life when on a country style tune, the band stopped playing suddenly for two seconds and Stephen rushed in a crazy blues lick. The whole audience was amazed.... Thanks for displaying that concert.Never forget Stephen was Jimi Hendrix best friend.

    Thanks for making this rare show available. Its a treat to hear the live versions of album tracks plus the Burrito/Byrds songs. What a stunning band this was. The acoustic songs are, for me, the highlight as the vocals are less strained. With Stephen coming over solo to the UK in October, this really wets the appetite. It sounds like his set may include Isn't It About Time from the second Manassas album plus a few gems from the first (Johnny's Garden). After the release of Just Roll Tape, maybe Stephen will be encouraged to put some more Manassas material out into the public domain. His best band and his best material in my opinion. Thanks again.
