Concert Summary

Pay witness to the MC5's immense performing talents with this New Year's Day recording, laid down at the dawn of the 1970s. Although the recording is incomplete (it cuts off just before "Shakin' Street" and an outro medley), you get a glimpse of the band at their very best, having just returned to their home state of Michigan and boasting a load of new songs. The show's master of ceremonies introduces the set by thanking the openers (the Coven, the SRC, and the Third Power), and a clean version of the band's classic intro: "It is time to…kick out the jams, brothers and sisters! The M-C-5!"…entire summary

@geauxtiger, it does not mean you are stupid if you do not know the original artist of "The Fire of Love" but it may make you stupid if you hear a song and instantly think the artist is the original one. "The Fire of Love" is country/rockabilly song from the fifties. The writer and the original artist is Jody Reynolds. It has been covered by many bands.

we used to see the MC5, SRC, Seger et al at the Crow's Nest on the east side of Detroit for 25 cents admission and those boys played for the sheer fun of rock and roll (and blew us all away in the process - you could stand right in front of the speakers and feel your rib cage rumble). can't believe I just wasted $800 so the wife could see Dion from stage side seats. the world has changed and we are all broke but not better off. can't rock to rap.

So far this sounds like the cleanest version of this show I've heard. Too bad it's incomplete. I was born and raised in Flint, and never knew Peter C. was the emcee on this. WTAC was the first radio station I heard as a kid, and then I think he was also on WWCK after that which formed my musical tastes somewhat in the late 70's and early 80's.

You learn some em' new every day. I thought " FIRE OF LOVE" was a GUN CLUB song. I'm so stupid.

Hey, Bandmate! Thanks for the kind words. Send me a note in care of ledzep2001@aol.com and I'll send you an electronic copy of "Local DJ". Pick whatever you think is cool and Crawdaddy is welcome to publish whatever they'd like from it free as a bird, as long as credit is given with all rights retained. Rama-Lama-Fa-Fa-Fa! Holy Crap! We have a legend in our midst. Peter C. please submit some killer rock'n'roll stories to Crawdaddy for print here. We got Dinky telling his stories from the road. It would be cool if you'd regale us with some backstage, DJ, band stuff for us younger students of the three-chord-highway. I am just a fan but I'm sure Crawdaddy would dig whatever bone you could throw their way. Please. MC5 rules! In all that hungover mess their in lies brilliance.
