Concert Summary

In a late 1998 interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins was asked to describe what his band’s next album would sound like. I was 15 and my limited knowlege of music beyond the Ed Sullivan Show was WABC AM with Cousin Brucie and Harry Harrison. I had made friends with someone who had an older brother. In that bedroom in the basement I heard Santana, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd's Umma Gumma Traffic's Last Exit and the first Chicago Transit Authority. There was always a new album on that stereo; Doctor's son, you know what I mean. One afternoon we walk in to find Climbing and being warned to watch out for this one, it's a cross between Led Zep and Cream. I thought how could that be? It's twoo It's twoo. First time I saw advise on a record "this music was meant to be played loud". It holds a place in my memory and this is nice to hear. You can get Climbing and Nantucket Sleighride on CDNOW
