Concert Summary

Late 1974 was a pivotal time for Roxy Music, the art rock band spearheaded by singer/songwriter Bryan Ferry. The group had scored several top five hits in its native U.K., and was breaking big in the U.S., with its fourth album, Country Life. At the same time, band members Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera, and saxophonist Andy MacKay had all embarked on solo projects. Ferry, in particular, had seen considerable chart success on his own, to the point…entire summary

I became deaf in '78 - motorcycle accident - before Ferry's 'The Bride Stripped Bare' lp came out. I was 18 yrs. old and a BIIIIIGGGGG Roxy/Ferry/801 fan. For the next 24 years my life was devoid of any sound what-so-ever. In 2001, I got a Coclear Implant, and lucky me, music is what I hear BEST! And Roxy/Ferry (and Pink Floyd. R.I.P Richard Wright.) is what I listen to about three-fourth of the time. When Roxy toured the Manifesto lp, it was my first concert as a deaf -I bought a camera to get something out of it - and I've been to more concerts as a deaf (36) than I have as a hearing person(17). But now that I can hear again, I'm catching up.'The Bride...' and 'Manifesto' were easy lp's for me to hear the first time, but not so 'Flesh and Blood' and 'Avalon'; those lp's had a more lush sound to them, and I had to listen to them over and over and over before I really understood them. But I do like them (Why 'F & B' get low ratings in the mags, I have no idea; Are those whom rate them deaf?). I'm EAGERLY AWAITING the new Roxy lp, wondering what the hell is it gonna sound like!To be honest, I prefer Ferry's studio voice over his in-concert voice, especially his voice on the first Roxy lp; "If there is something', '2HB', 'Re-make Re-model'. To bad he didn't make two lp's with that voice! My favorite live Roxy is the Reunion tour video; Ferry's voice is better than the lp's ( or cd's, whatever.), and it is an EXCELLENT show! The songs have never sounded better live! And to have Paul back on drums......( To bad he has no drum solo!) Ferry has said that he had worked too hard building the Roxy name to let it go completely, so why not go Roxy, solo, Roxy, solo, etc.... That way, you will never tire of touring with the same band over and over. LONG LIVE ROXY MUSIC!

Please make this concert available for download!!! All of us Roxy fans would greatly appreciate it. If this isn't considered a classic performance then, I don't know what is. A fantastic live document.

A wonderful treat from the archives and so rare - some artists are bootlregged to death but there is far too little early Roxy stuff available Saw them at Preston England in 1975 and then twice at Manchester on the reunion tour then, gloriously at Radio City NYC the night after my wife Lesley and I got married in Manhattan Registry Office, city Hall, in July 2003! The very apothesis of style with substance - Viva Roxy Music!
