Concert Summary

This stripped down concert appearance by Stephen Stills came in place of a much ballyhooed joint tour with Neil Young that had originally been planned. That tour was cancelled when it was reported Young developed a throat condition - although it is rumored he left in a dispute with Stills. Their joint studio LP Long May You Run, came out in September of 1976, and in order to save the summer concert season of 1976, Stills grabbed the rhythm…entire summary

I saw Stills on this tour 5 days later,Oct.30,1976,my 21st birthday, at Ohio Wesleyan U.My late friend David went to college there and being major stills fans we were super excited about the concert, even without Neil.I remember Stephen as being somewhat shell-shocked and a bit ragged that night, probably from the abrupt departure of Neil from the tour but after hearing this concert from the Palladium I realize he was far more on than I remembered after so many years. It is a real drag that my buddy passed away without ever hearing this stuff in the "Vault".Stills was and still is one of my favorites.Lonesome Don

I saw the Statesboro, Georgia (a small collage town) show of this tour. My brother took me (I was only 13years old). My brother was/is an expert at getting up front at general admission shows. Anyway, we were leaning on the stage rocking out and several assholes in the bleachers kept yelling for "long May you Run" from the then current Stills/Young Lp. I still remember Still's saying "Neil sings that song, I think he's playing in Texas tonight. How 'bout you getting your ass outta here and go join him". Stills was pissed, and the drunken frat boys kept being rude but the band played a wonderfull show. At the end of the show and the band was leaving the stage, I yell'ed to Joe Vitale "Rollercoaster Week-end" (the title of Vitale's solo LP). Joe looked at my young ass, gave a big smile and threw me a drum stick (which a collage boy promptly caught and disapeared into the crowd...lol..) Great memories I owe to my brother, Bitt. BTW, we still go to shows together and usually manage to get right up front regardless of seating policy.

I saw this tour in 1976 at The University of Miami's patio at the student union. People kept shouting out, "where's Neil, when's he coming onstage, etc." Finally after Stills had heard enough he shouted, "F..., Neil Young, he's not here and I am and if you want me to keep playing, shut up!" Believe me, everybody shut up and Steve put on a magical show even though he had to read some of the songs from his lyric sheets.
