Concert Summary

Evolving from Pete Townshend's idea for a musical autobiography of The Who, the second of the group's two full-scale rock operas, Quadrophenia, eventually developed into a social, musical and psychological exploration of the mid-1960s mod scene in England. Written from the perspective of a British teenager, Jimmy, the band member’s role in the storyline became symbolic via Jimmy's four personalities. Like much of Townshend's work,…entire summary

DRJIMMY - your first show was Phil 1975? This puts you in rock immortality as far as I am concerned! You are one of the luckiest people on earth as far as I am concerned! So great to fianlly hear Phil 1973 clear and balanced.

Adding to the comment just below, Keith listened incredibly well to what was being played and never overpowered it. He was like a surgeon with pinprick precision. Bravo!

As crazy and unrestrained a person as Keith Moon was, his drumming was astoundingly precise and restrained. Like firecracker pops and exclamation points, not just endless pounding. I had no idea.

This was the first of about 20 times I saw the Who between 1973 and 1989. It was the aboslute best. Fourth row on the left - right where Pete jumps and slides towards during Won't Get Fooled Again. He smashed his guitar at the end of this show. Miss you Keith and John.

As a teen I ripped off "Quad" soundtrack cassette from KMART, not my style but the intro to the "true" Who was well worth the risk. That was 30 years, I have found maximum R&B.

I have an old LP bootleg of this and it seems that King Bisquit censored a certain word during Doctor Jimmy. I was hoping that the version of the show offered here corrected that. My hope was in vain. Did someone literally discard that portion of the tape? I can understand censoring a tape for broadcast in 1973, but still in 2008!? Otherwise, a fantastic show.

my last concert of an awesome year(1973)for great concerts.I must consider this show as in my top 5 shows of all time.Opening act for this show was Lynard Skynard(fair).Led Zepp(MSG-73),TYA/ZZTop(MSG-74),The Who(MSG/4thshow-74),Yes(phil/spec-74&77)is rest of my top 5.The next time The Who came to Phil/Spec i sat in second row in front of John E. I requested a song (Boris The Spider) and they played it. As Roger put it (Here's A Song For The Loud Mouth In The Second Row). I also sat next to edgar winter and his Babe at The Who's MSG/1stshow-74. It's just fantastic to be able to listen concert anytime. great memories from a great year. Thanks!

So are the Who (who are a Universal group), part of this new deal you have with Universal Media? I know they're part of Universal. Is this show going to be released soon? As a teen, Quadrophenia means a lot to me. Not only that, but it was incredibly rare to catch the Who on a good night during this rough and rocky tour. This was one of the high moments and it has a huge historical significance in rock history. The Who were at their best when all of the tapes from Quadrophenia worked on this tour. Philadelphia was one of those nights. Thank God for the KBFH, not just for capturing this performance but other important artists as well. So is this going to come out on hard disk or download? Or both? Either way some release would be fantastic. In stereo I hope hahaha Thank you for your efforts vault team. It really means a lot

I can't believe I found this! I was not only there, I was on the floor, front right, against the stage. Got Pete's windmill sweat on me.
