Love this and thanks for the link Howard. Traffic and especially Steve Winwood are a big part of my musical schooling. I can feel a spending spree coming on! ;?)

Apart from "Welcome To The Canteen" - is there anything else live in existence featuring the Winwood/Capaldi/Mason/Wood line-up? Of all bands due for the posthumous anthologising into a decent box-set, Traffic must be a prime contender (most other rock bands being done by now). There is some unreleased stuff kicking around (like that film soundtrack they did - "Nevertheless" - and the unreleased/shelved live album 'Live November 1970')...

They would have used a Hammond B-3, which has a set of bass pedals, or the bass line could have been played on the lower keyboard. Many horn players are also trained on the piano, which shows the range of Chris Woods. I still think Steve Winwood doesn't get enough credit for the funkiness of his bass lines. Besides, everything else! Curse You Winwood!Jim Capaldi, Oh You of that sly funky rhythm, and wry voice.

Traffic was a great band, too short lived, Thank you Bill Graham for treating the bands as artists and offering the audience the best concert experience possible. The best sound and creative and diverse bills. And the great for thought to record so much stuff. It was such a magical time and well worth preserving. Bob B

I think I recall hearing that Steve Winwood played simple basslines with his feet when he played organ. (to answer Harvest's question)
