Concert Summary

From their earliest days in sweaty rock rooms of Toronto during the summer of 1975 through the band's demise in the late-'80s, the trio of singer/bassist Mike Levine, singer/guitarist Rik Emmett, and drummer/singer Gil Moore always had a handle on their artistic output and a solid sense of what the rock 'n' roll constituency was looking for at the time. By 1977, Triumph was doing dates throughout their native Canada and the US, and within three years the band hit gold as one of RCA (and later MCA) Record's biggest acts, powered by a staple of FM hits that included "Lay It On The Line,"…entire summary

Not only is Rik Emmett one of the most talented guitarists ever he is a hell of a nice guy. Mike and Gil should count their lucky stars that he has anything to do with them. Triumph is Rik Emmett!

saw this tour at hammersmith odeon, had got all their singles, singles ect, went with a mate to the soundcheck to get some stuff signed, the arrived and said they were running late but'll sign when the finished, they sneaked out the other side and drove past us smiling and waving, scared they were going to get mobbed by 2 fans no doubt, saw the show that night and they were shit,a total and utter letdown, after an hour people were walking out, afterward we tried again they let people in single file to get autographs, rik was great he even ask where i'd got the sample of triumph promo from as he didn't have one himself,he even got the manager to take the number down,he signed everything, chatted the lot,the other 2 were two of the biggest arseholes i've ever come across in my life, all they did was moan and complaining that they wanted to get back to the hotel room and they would only sign one thing, rik looked totally embarresed so it was great for me a few years later when he left the other loser. they came back to play the port vale festival and they were crap there as well. they were compared to rush,3 piece from canada ect,the difference was that rush could do it live,no matter how complicated the song they were perfect, triumph weren't, listen to rock 'n' machine, where's the power compaired to the studio version? left in the studio with all the other overdubs

I saw Triumph live in 1985 and 1986, and to this day they were a couple of the most memorable large venue shows I've ever seen. The performance was extremely vibrant and energetic but the staging and lighting was awesome as well. The lighting rig actually expanded in size as the show progressed, giving it a presence of epic proportion by the end. Rik Emmett's guitar solos were interesting and original. He still remains as one of my favorites. The band rocked both in the studio and on stage.

I never got too much into this group, but I liked their songs on radio back in the day. This is the first concert of theirs I've ever heard. This sounds a bit Spinal Tap to my ears now, but I like it! Sorry to make a Rush comparison, but I'm struck that this group in 1981 sounds like Rush circa 1976/7.

The band is now "intact" as they have reunited and did a couple of shows this past summer! Their live show was and still is the best around!
