Concert Summary

Rock 'n' roll comes in many different shapes and sizes, and on the night of April 26, 1970, it came to the Fillmore West in the form of a barrel-chested Irishman in a silk shirt and flares.

At 24 years of age, Van Morrison had already experienced the sort of career rollercoaster that less robust singers preferred to stretch out over a lifetime. The blue-eyed soul of his early work with Ulster pub-rockers Them had been all but abandoned in favor of darker, more introspective material on his seminal solo recordings;…entire summary

I saw Van Morrison one time, and it was this band, the Berklee college of Music guys. 1970, Randall's Island, New York City. An amazing performance of great music by great musicians...marred by an incident, The idiotic militant group 'The Young Lords' passed out propaganda sheets at the concert- then people made paper airplanes out of them, and threw them back and forth by the dozens. This was rudely during Van's set. He stopped the band, sat down, didn't say a word. When the audience figured it out and stopped, he resumed the set, pretty incredible way to handle that. He did it without hostility, but rather like a father waiting for his kids to quiet down and behave. Moondance is a masterpiece album.

I've got tickets stubs from 1969 and 1969...the Schaffer Festival Central Park! The expensive tix were $5 so we cheaped it out at $2 seats. Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Alvin Lee.... OMG. I turned into my grandma for a minute. I gues need to apply SS now. TY!

The crowd is lucky they got this set. I saw Van in Seattle in '73. He sang 5 songs, then left the stage. The band played two instumentals, but he didn't return. He was hot for five songs, but I didn't go see him again until he played at the Guinness Flaugh a few years ago.
