 General Questions

 What is the Concert Vault?

The Concert Vault plays live concert performances from master recordings owned by Wolfgang's Vault. For more information visit the About Concert Vault page.

How much does the Concert Vault cost?

Access to the Concert Vault is free. Every concert in the Concert Vault can be streamed at your PC for free. Some of the concerts in the Concert Vault are also available for download; some of these are free and some must be purchased.

Which concerts in the Concert Vault are available for download?

Concerts that are available for download display a price or Free button in the general concert listings, and a button on the detailed concert information page that says Add to Cart.

Why aren't all of the concerts are available for download?

Although we own rights to these recordings, in many cases others have rights as well, including performers and song publishers. We do not make a concert available for download unless all rights have been properly cleared.

When are you going to offer lossless download?

When we first made downloads available we said that we intended to offer lossless in the future. We have not done so yet for several reasons; first and foremost among them are concerns from many artists that offering lossless downloads will lead to greater piracy of these recordings. We share these concerns; that said, we (and the artists) totally understand the desire you have to listen to the highest quality recordings of these shows that can be made available. We are working on a solutions that will make everyone happy, and thank you for your patience.

Do artists get paid when their concerts are played in the Concert Vault? Do they get paid for downloads?

Absolutely. We pay licensing fees for every single track played by every listener to the three major Performance Rights Organizations (PROs) - ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. These payments ultimately go to the performing artists and song publishers. A large percentage of the sales of downloads go directly to the performers and song publishers - for more information read this post in our forums.

When will you begin streaming your concert video archives?

By 2009 we hope to present never-before-seen live performance video in the Concert Vault from the thousands of concert videos we have in our archive. We are also working to add concert videos from our newest catalogs.

What happened to your Country Music Vault site?

The Country Music Vault site has been replaced with the Silver Eagle catalog within the Concert Vault. All of the concerts you listened to on the Country Music Vault are still available here.

Why do you need to know my email address?

We use your email address as an account name so that you can add concerts to your Favorites list, participate in the Concert Vault forums, and place orders at Wolfgang's Vault. We do not send unsolicited email. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

Please add concerts for (fill-in-the-blank performer).

The Concert Vault opened with 300 concerts and we have been adding new concerts every week since then. Which ones we add are heavily influenced by your feedback. Just let us know in the Concert Vault forums, or send us a note from the Contact Us page.

When can I get concerts or Vault Radio from Sirius, XM or iTunes?

We have no plans at this time to make our music available via Sirius, XM or iTunes. This may change in the future; if it does we will alert our listeners with an email.

 Downloads Questions

What quality files are you offering for download?

Concert Vault download files that are offered for sale are high-quality DRM-free 256k mp3 files. Free downloads (from the Daytrotter and Noise Pop catalogs) are DRM-free 128k mp3 files.

What is DRM? Are your download files DRM-free?

DRM (which stands for Digital Rights Management) is technology used by publishers and copyright holders to restrict the usage of content such as music. At Wolfgang's Vault our download files are DRM-free. We believe that once you have purchased music, and thus compensated the artists and other copyright holders, you should not be restricted from your personal enjoyment of the music.

Which concerts in the Concert Vault are available for download?

Concerts that are available for download display a price or Free button in the general concert listings, and a button on the detailed concert information page that says Add to Cart.

I downloaded a concert. How do I play it?

Most people play and manage their digital audio files in a media player, like iTunes, Windows Media Player or WinAmp to name a few. To play your downloaded concerts follow these easy steps:

  • When downloading is completed press the "See Download Folder" button.
  • Open your media player.
  • Select folders or files in your Download Folder and drag them onto your media player window.
I need to re-install the Download Manager. Where can I find the installer?

If you are having problems running the installer read our Mac Installer or Windows Installer instructions.

I can't find the concert files that I downloaded. Where are they?

In the Concert Vault Download Manager, click on the "See Download Folder" button to find your files. The Download Manager saves your files in a folder named "Concert Vault Downloads." The default location for this folder is on your desktop. You can change this when you install the Download Manager, or later by clicking on Preferences -> Edit.

I hear gaps between songs when I play your downloads, whether it's on my computer or my iPod.

You can address this in most cases in your media player. All major media players (iTunes, Windows Media, etc.) have supported gapless mp3 playback for some time. Many portable mp3 players, including several iPod models, also support gapless mp3 playback. For an excellent overview please visit Wikipedia's Gapless playback page. iTunes users may also want to review Apple's Gapless Playback page.

My hard disk crashed, and I lost my files. Can you send them to me again?

Unfortunately we cannot be responsible for what happens to your files once you have downloaded them. We strongly encourage you to make a backup of your Concert Vault purchases after you have downloaded them.

I can't find the answer to my question in this page. What are my options?

We strongly encourage you to visit the Concert Vault Support Forums. As listeners post questions, we will post answers here. Your question will likely be answered there along with many others.

If you still need help don't hesitate to Contact Us.

 Streaming Questions

Can I listen to the Concert Vault from more than one computer?

You can access the Concert Vault from any computer, but you may only listen from one computer at a time.

Why is there a small gap of silence between each track in a concert?

Each track played in a concert is in fact an individual "stream." When one track completes, the player must load the next track before it begins playing. This results in the short gap of silence you hear between tracks of a concert. The track files themselves are "continuous;" when we make downloads available they will play without interruption once they are stored locally on your PC.

Do I have to install special software to listen to the Concert Vault?

Most listeners need to do nothing. The Concert Vault works on any Windows PC, Linux PC or Mac as long as you have the following:

  • Flash Player Version 9
  • Javascript enabled
  • Popups allowed for wolfgangsvault.com (see above)
Can I use the Concert Vault on a slow Internet connection?

Yes. Our players autosense your connection's speed. If it is not fast enough to listen to our broadband stream you will automatically receive a lower bitrate stream suitable for even dialup Internet connections.

 "How To" Questions

How do I rate a concert or add it to My Favorites list?

You can do this in two ways. First, when you are viewing the detailed information for a concert, click on the number of stars next to "Your rating", or click on the "Add Concert to My Favorites" link. Second, if you are listening to A Concert, click on the RATINGS or FAVORITES links in the bottom of the player and select the appropriate item. If you rate a concert and change your mind later you can always change your rating.

How do I use your RSS feed?

The Concert Vault RSS Feed is perfect for keeping up with what we have added recently to the Vault. To use it, you need to decide which RSS Feed reader to use. Most popular web browsers (including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari) now include built-in RSS readers. To use your browser's built-in ready simply click here, or click on our RSS feed link or in the "New Releases" section on the Concert Vault home page and follow the instructions. There are several other popular feed readers you may wish to explore, including My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader.

How do I use your Single-Track Widget (or "Embed" feature)?

It's very easy to do. Simply click on a tracks embed link - from either a concert's Detail page on the site, or from within the player - and copy the embed code that is generated. Then paste it into whatever page you want. The single-track widget works well in MySpace, iGoogle and Facebook pages, and in all popular blog pages.

How do I add a track to My Playlist?

You can do this in two ways. First, from any Concert detail page, click on the plus sign next to the track you want to add. Second, from either the concert or radio player, click the plus sign icon at the bottom of the player to add the currently playing song to My Playlist.

How do I play My Playlist?

Click on the "My Vault / My Playlist" in the left column of any page to get to the My Playlist page and click on the large Play button. Don't forget to specify whether you want to play your Playlist in the order as listed or in "shuffle" mode.

Can I pause the music, change tracks and fast-forward or rewind?

You can do all of these. Simply click on the track you want to listen to if you want to change tracks. You can skip forwards or backwards in this way. To fast-forward or rewind within a song simply drag the progress indicator as you desire.

What else does my computer need to use the Concert Vault?

The Concert Vault works on any Windows PC, Linux PC or Mac as long as you have the following:

  • Flash Player 8 or 9
  • Javascript enabled
  • Popups allowed for wolfgangsvault.com (see above)
Is my PC the only device I can use to listen to the Concert Vault?

You can deliver Concert Vault audio from your PC to your stereo in many ways.

One option is to plug your laptop or computer's audio output into a stereo input using a $10 cable available at Radio Shack and many other electronics stores

Apple's AirPort Express, when coupled with the rogue amoeba's Airfoil software, is another excellent way to stream audio from your Mac or PC to your stereo.

Can I listen to the Concert Vault on devices like the Squeezebox, Roku Soundbridge or Sonos systems?

At this time we do not support devices that require a stream URL.

 Troubleshooting

I have logged in, but when I try to listen to a Concert it tells me that I need to login again!

Make sure cookies are enabled on your PC - they must be in order for the Concert Vault to work. Click here for more information on enabling cookies. If your PC is part of an office network, your IT security group may have permanently disabled cookies; if they have you will not be able to listen to Concert Vault streams.

When I click to listen to a concert or to Vault Radio, nothing happens.

Our players run in a popup window. You may need to tell your popup blocker to allow our popups to appear. Here's how you do it:

Internet Explorer:

  • From the browser's menu, click on "Tools -> Pop-up Blocker -> Pop-up Blocker Settings..."
  • Enter wolfgangsvault.com and click "Add", then click "Close".

Firefox:

  • From the browser's menu, click on "Tools -> Options..." -> Content"
  • Next to the "Block Popup Windows" option, click on "Allowed Sites."
  • Enter wolfgangsvault.com and click "Allow", then click "OK', then click "OK" again.

Safari:

  • Click on the "Safari" menu and uncheck "Block Pop-Up Windows."

NOTE: if you do this and are still not seeing the player popup window, it means that you also have popup blockers enabled in a third-party Internet Security/Privacy software product (like Norton Internet Security). Check your software's Help section for how to allow popups from our site.

What do I do if I am listening to a concert and the music stops?

Occasionally your Internet connection may be interrupted for a wide range of reasons beyond our control. When this happens, the concert you are listening to may stop playing. If it does, click on another song in the concert; if this does not begin playing, simply go back to the Concert Vault website and re-select the concert to begin playing it again.

In some office networks you may have a high-speed connection to the Internet, but your company's security provisions may be scanning our stream to ensure that it is not a virus. In some cases this will interrupt our stream enough to cause it to stop playing.

My computer says I need Flash, but I know I have already installed it.

In the rare cases this happens the best thing to do is to completely uninstall Flash before re-installing it.

  • First, go to Adobe's web site and follow their Flash uninstall instructions at http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157.
  • Close all browser windows and completely exit your browser.
  • Open one browser window and go to Adobe's Flash Player Install Page at http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer/.
  • Carefully follow the instructions on this page to install Flash.
  • Exit your browser again, and if required complete any install steps required.
  • Re-open your browser and try the Concert Vault again.
The Concert Vault Player opens but no no music plays.

There are two different issues that fit this description. If the track counter for the first track begins counting (from 0:00 to 0:01 and on through the length of the track), then the concert is in fact playing, but there is a problem with the audio setup on your Mac or PC. In this case:

  • If you are a Mac user, check your Audio settings in the Audio MIDI Setup utility, located in the Applications/Utilities folder on your Mac. Audio Output/Format should be set to 44100.0 Hz.
  • If you are a Windows PC user it's a bit more complicated. There are numerous threads in forums on the subject, mostly by people for whom audio won't play in YouTube videos (which are also Flash-based). There is an excellent tip on the subject, including a link to more information at Adobe, at http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php?t26915.html.

On the other hand, if the track counter stays at 0:00, then your PC's audio drivers may have become corrupted or are out of date and need to be reinstalled. Please consult your PC's installation guidelines on how to do this. If you are still experiencing this please send us a message by using our CONTACT US page.

The Concert Vault player window is opening but it's blank.

This can be happen when you have configured your browser to block javascript or secure content. Here's how you enable javascript:

Internet Explorer:

  • From the browser's menu, click on "Tools -> Internet Options"
  • On the Security tab, select "default level"
  • On the Privacy tab, select "default level"
  • Finally, click on the OK button

Firefox:

  • From the browser's menu, click on "Tools -> Options..." -> Content", and make sure "Enable JavaScript" is checked.

Safari:

  • From the browser's menu, click on "Safari -> Preferences -> Security", and make sure "Enable Javascript" is checked.

NOTE: if you do this and are still seeing a blank player window, either your corporate PC security policy has disabled javascript, or on Windows PCs your scripting engine isn't working properly. Several listeners have reported success in the latter case by doing the following. First, re-register four Windows files:

  • Click "Start," and then click "Run."
  • Type regsvr32 msscript.ocx in the "Open" box and click "OK."
  • Repeat for dispex.dll,vbscript.dll, and scrrun.dll.

Next, make sure the file (open) type .JS is properly associated:

  • In Control Panel, click "Folder Options," and then click "File Types."
  • Locate the .JS extension and click "Advanced."
  • Make sure the "Application to perform action" field contains: C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*
